LESSONS LEARNED :
Riskier assets, like stocks, give young people the opportunity for higher long-term returns.

Do your homework before making any risky investments.

Nitin's Story

At age 20, when Nitin first began investing, he didn't know much about the investment world; but he knew he wanted a place where his savings could grow. To begin learning more, he began reading books about investing, paying closer attention to the news, and getting advice from knowledgeable members of his family. The more he learned, the more confident he became and the more money he felt comfortable investing.

Since that time, Nitin has invested in individual stocks, treasury bonds, and mutual funds; and has received excellent results. "I could have invested money in a bank a regular bank account; instead, I chose the riskier route but it has paid off enormously. Every dollar I earn, in turn, earns even more money."

While Nitin has used some of his earnings to help with his educational expenses, the rest he intends to keep invested for the long-term, so that he can grow his money and eventually afford to open his own business. His advice to other students? "Always do your homework before you buy. Never invest blindly."
