For many millennials, feeling burn out is just a fact of life, but it doesn’t have to be. If you’re feeling burnt out, there are a number of things you can do to help.
Set Good Financial Goals
With student loans, bills, and other payments each month, it can feel like you’re constantly on the hamster wheel of life, with no way to get off. If you’re hoping to make a career change, quit a dead-end job, or even go back to school, this can seem impossible if haven’t made any financial plans.
Many millennials feel like owning their own home is out of reach. Take a moment to look at your debt. Set a budget, and make sure that you’re always putting at least a small amount away each week. If something financially stressful arises unexpectedly, try to pay it off immediately, borrowing money from someone you trust or by use of a money lender whom you can easily pay back. This will help you form good financial habits, and help you save on interest.
Avoid Useless Time Consumers
Take a hard look at where your time is spent, can you live without it? Electronics and social media can sometime take over our free time, leaving less time for things that can truly bring value to our lives, or building a romantic relationship. How about toxic friendships? People can also be a cause of stress and anxiety. Learn to listen to yourself, you needs and wants, and adjust your use of time accordingly.
Talk About it
One of the best ways to relieve stress is to vocalize it. Confide your stresses to a trusted friend or family member, you don’t need to deal with burnout alone. Get your thoughts off your chest, and you’ll probably find that with someone’s help, you can often come up with great strategies that will help you navigate through this time in your life.
Take a Break
When was the last time you truly got away from it all? If you can’t remember, now’s the time to plan a holiday. When you take the time to relax, you’ll return feeling like a new person; refreshed and productive.
When you’re on vacation, it’s time to truly disconnect. Refrain from answering work emails, talking to colleagues, and taking work phone calls. Make sure to set boundaries and let people know you’ll be completely out of contact. Some might also take this time to disconnect from social media and truly concentrate on themselves.
