Another major area in which you are probably being charged too much is your water service. Yes, we all need fresh water piped to our properties to drink and wash with. However, as one of the most expensive utilities, it can seem vastly overpriced for the service we received.

Luckily, there is something you can do about this, and it’s to use grey water for clothes washing and watering the garden. This is water that is collected from rain or has been previously used for washing. It costs you nothing and means you use less water from your supplier. The only issue is that it is still illegal to use grey water in some states, so do make sure you know whether it’s OK in your location before you try it.
