Cheap Ways To Make Your Kitchen Feel Brand New

A kitchen remodel typically costs tens of thousands of dollars. However, you don’t have to spend a huge amount of money to make your kitchen feel brand new. If you’re on a tight budget and you want to make a change, why not consider some of these cheap ways to transform your kitchen?

Repaint the walls

Adding a new lick of paint to the walls of your kitchen could completely change how it feels. You can hire a painter-decorator to do this, or you can cheaply paint the walls of your kitchen yourself. There are all kinds of different color schemes that you can consider in a kitchen. For a timeless look, stick to neutral colors. For a more bold look, consider mustard yellow or rusty red.

Repaint the cabinets

You can also transform the look of your cabinets by repainting them. A layer of paint could also help to hide any stains or scratches that your cabinets have developed over the years. When choosing a kitchen cabinet color, opt for a color that contrasts your kitchen walls. You’ll need to buy specialist wood paint for your cabinets. This paint could be applied using a brush or it could be sprayed on.

Install new drawer pulls and handles

Another way to transform the look of your cabinets without replacing them is to install new drawer pulls and cupboard handles. This hardware comes in various different styles from modern wooden drawer pulls to antique brass cabinet handles. Identify which type of style is right for your kitchen – do you want a traditional look or a contemporary look? This hardware is typically cheap to buy and easy to install oneself.

Upgrade your countertop appliances

Countertop appliances like microwave ovens and toasters can cost a lot less to replace than major appliances, while still greatly reflecting the look of your kitchen. If your current countertop appliances are getting old and starting to become worn, consider swapping them for new ones. You could consider keeping your appliances all in the same color and style. Some appliance brands may even offer discounts if you buy two or more in the same style (certain appliances may be possible to buy in sets).

Update the lighting

You could also make your kitchen feel brand new by upgrading the lighting. If your kitchen is illuminated by a single overhead bulb, consider whether a new lampshade could make a difference. Alternatively, you could replace the bulb with one that is brighter or a different color temperature. Another option could be to install a new light fitting. This could be a traditional multi-arm chandelier or something more modern. Track lighting is a popular option in the kitchen for helping to brighten up the room  – this involves installing a track containing multiple lights pointing in different directions. Pendant lights can meanwhile be an attractive feature for hanging over islands or breakfast bars. These lights will need to be installed by a professional electrician and could vary in cost depending on the style of light you choose.
