Fun Sports to Take up this year
Sport is a great way to keep active while having fun, and if you feel like you’ve fallen into a rut and spend most of your weekends eating junk food and watching Netflix, a new sport can be just what you need to get yourself out of the rut.
Here are some fun sports you can take up this year:
Martial Arts
There are many different martial arts available, whether you like the idea of grappling and wrestling on the ground, fighting competitively, or learning for self defence. Tae Kwon Do is great for fitness and is an Olympic sport that focuses on agility, flexibility and speed, Karate is similar although you can punch to the head which isn’t allowed in Tae Kwon Do, Boxing is a great option for fitness and arm strength, and Judo is great for grappling.
If you can’t decide which martial art you want to do, most clubs will let you take an introductory class for free, so you can try a bunch and then decide which one you’d like to do.
Swimming
If you have an old injury or two, or simply don’t like anything that impacts your joints and bones, swimming could be the best sport for you. It’s an excellent cardiovascular sport and will help you get fit super fast, while improving your strength and toning your muscles as you speed through the water. If you haven’t swum in a few years, most pools offer adult lessons so you can take one or two to brush up on your technique and then spend time in the lap pool whenever you have a free hour.
Running
It seems obvious, but running is a fun sport that can also be both social and competitive. Running can be done solo, with a friend or partner, or in a group, and you’ll find plenty of running groups available that have both beginner and pro runners. One great thing about running groups is that there are often races on, so you can set goals and meet them with your new friends. If you’re new to running you may just want to enter a 5km race and commit to training, or you could sign up for a marathon and begin training each week to meet your goal.
Jet-skiing
This is a super fun sport that’ll have all of your friends begging to hang out with you over the weekend. All you need is some water and you’ll have hours of zipping along the water with friends and family on the back and you’ll be keeping cool all summer long. Check out JSW Powersports to see the many different types available.
Cycling
Cycling is another great sport that’s low-impact and can be done either solo, with a buddy or in a large group. Since you can go further distances than you can running, it’s a good option if you want to get out and about in the weekend and find beautiful sports around your town.
Softball
If you’re on the lookout for a fun and engaging sport to pick up this year, consider diving into the exciting world of softball. Softball, a variant of baseball, offers a perfect blend of physical activity, teamwork, and enjoyment. One aspect that adds to the allure of playing softball is the vibrant and distinctive softball uniform. These uniforms not only contribute to team unity but also bring a sense of identity and pride to players. From the classic jerseys to the matching pants and caps, the softball uniform is a visual representation of team spirit and camaraderie. So, gear up in your stylish softball uniform, grab a glove, and get ready to enjoy the thrill of this fantastic sport with friends and teammates on the field.
